Applies to: Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 4 (MW4) on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Xbox on PC, Battle.net, and Steam.
Requires: Enhanced Headphone Mode with a Personalized Profile (free trial or Immerse Gamepack license)
What it does
Spatial Voice Chat places in-game voice chat in 3D space around you. Instead of every voice coming from the center of your head, you hear voices from where they are in the match: in front, behind, to your left or right, near or far.
It’s part of Enhanced Headphone Mode's Personalized Profile, so voices use the same spatial audio, personalized for your ears and headphones, as the rest of the game.
Who you hear spatially
What gets spatialized depends on the game mode:
|
| Mode | Who you hear spatially
|
|---|
Core Multiplayer | Your own squad |
DMZ | Nearby players, including enemies (via Proximity Chat) |
Combat Outpost | Friendly players |

Troubleshooting
Voices still sound centered or “in my head.”
- Check your EHM Settings to confirm you’re using a Personalized Profile. Spatial Voice Chat isn’t part of the Universal Profile.
- Make sure Enhanced Headphone Mode is ON in Sound Settings.
I can’t hear some players at all.
- Set Game Chat Voice to All Lobby. Friends Only or Party Only limits whose voices reach you.
- In DMZ, Proximity Chat must be ON to hear players outside your squad.
- The other player may have their mic muted or voice chat turned off.
Voices sound doubled, hollow or oddly placed.
- Turn off any other virtual surround or spatial sound processing on your system or headset software. Stacking two spatial processors distorts positioning.
FAQ
Do my squadmates need Immerse for me to hear them spatially?
No. Spatialization happens on your end. Each player who wants to hear voices spatially needs their own Personalized Profile.
Is it in Call of Duty®: Black Ops 7, Call of Duty®: Black Ops 6, Call of Duty®: Warzone™?
No. Spatial Voice Chat is exclusive to Modern Warfare 4. Your Immerse Gamepack license still covers your Personalized Profile and Headphone EQ in those games.
Does it change what I can hear?
No. It changes where voices come from, not who you can hear. Who’s audible is still set by your Voice Chat, Proximity Chat and Game Chat Voice settings.
